Can you go to Canada with US Visa?

Entry requirements to Canada by nationality

Care must be taken when changing beyond the border due to changes in the US law.

What is necessary to cross the border?
Documents necessary to cross the Canadian and US borders will vary depending on citizenship, age, and travel method. Customs officials may refuse entry into Canada if traveling without proper documentation.

From November 2016, Canada mandated entry requirements called electronic travel permit (eTA). The conditions for entering the Canadian eTA apply to foreign nationals who are visa-free nationals and are flying on Canada's flying planes.
Please fill in the simple customs declaration form handed to the plane as usual.

Exceptions include US citizens and travelers with a valid visa.
Since the admission conditions of people traveling on land or sea have not been changed, application is unnecessary except for those traveling by Canada to the air.

Travelers who are double citizens of Canada or the United States and other countries do not need an eTA. However, you must hold a valid Canadian or US passport when you enter Canada.

For US citizens, you need a passport or NEXUS card to cross the border. However, it applies when travel includes a flight between Canada and the US airport. If you have a driver's license or a US passport card, you can continue to use domestic flights across Canada and the US border.
For those with a criminal record, Canadian border guards can access databases that have published criminal records in the United States.

Legal permanent residents in the United States need to present green cards instead of passports for traveling in Canada, the US, the atmosphere, land or sea.
Green card holders are allowed to enter Canada from the United States.
Permanent resident of the United States does not need a visa to visit Canada regardless of citizenship.
Permanent resident must re-present the green card when re-entering the United States. Legal permanent resident of the United States must send e-travel permission (eTA) to Canada from 15th March 2016.

Citizens of other countries
If you are not a Canadian or American citizen, you need a valid passport or visa to enter Canada. There are two exceptions.

Return of dual citizens
From November 10, 2016 Canadian citizens with dual nationals will need a Canadian passport to board an airline to Canada. They can no longer enter Canada by passport other than Canada or pass Canada.
